Implants

The first week after implants

Covers swelling, eating, hygiene, and follow-up questions that matter most during the first recovery week.

The first week after implant placement is one of the most carefully observed phases of healing. Mild swelling, pressure, and local sensitivity may appear during this period without automatically meaning that something is wrong.

Cold application during the first 24 hours, avoiding very hot or hard foods, and not stressing the area all support a smoother recovery. Oral hygiene should continue, but in a way that does not irritate the surgical site.

If pain keeps increasing, bleeding does not settle, or signs such as odor or infection appear, the clinic should be contacted. Follow-up visits matter because they help confirm that the implant is adapting well to the surrounding tissues.

During the first week, chewing on the other side, avoiding hard crusted foods, and following the advised cleaning routine usually makes recovery more comfortable. The goal is not to over-restrict the patient, but to give the new site a calmer chance to settle with the surrounding tissues.
