Gum recession is not only an esthetic change. It may be noticed with exposed root surfaces, cold sensitivity, discomfort while brushing, or teeth that look longer. The cause is not the same for every patient.
During examination, brushing technique, tartar buildup, gum thickness, tooth position, bite forces, and possible clenching habits are reviewed together. Hard brushing may matter for some people, while tissue support or tooth alignment may be more important in others.
Explaining sensitivity only by toothpaste choice can miss the bigger picture. Follow-up depends on cleaning needs, home-care habits, sensitivity level, and whether recession appears stable or progressive.
The goal is not to make gum recession sound frightening. It is to understand why recession and sensitivity are happening. Early evaluation can help avoid unnecessary procedures and support a steadier preventive care plan.
